Summary
Shows names of guitar parts and different types of guitars.
How are the parts called? Here's an image of a typical (acoustic) guitar.
- headstock (or head): holds the tuners
- tuners: tune the guitar
- frets: metal strips located at the points where notes are
- fretboard (or fingerboard): piece of wood that holds frets
- neck: the wooden extension that holds the head, tuners, frets, fretboard, ...
- body: the big part of the guitar
Types of guitar
Differences of some popular guitar types:
Classical guitar (acoustic)
- has nylon strings
- frets are flat
Western guitar (acoustic)
- has steel strings
- frets are not flat
- suitable for pop music, chord strumming, sing-a-song writer, etc
Electric guitar
- has steel strings
- frets are not flat
- does not produce much sound when not amplified
- most of the time features a solid (relatively small) and heavy body
- has pickups to pick up the vibrations and turn them into electric signals
